Technology Enthusiast, Software Engineer, & Lifelong Learner
I'm Shaurya Shahi, a software engineer, entrepreneur, and lifelong learner. My journey through the tech world has been marked by both successes and lessons learned from failure, especially during my twenties, when I ventured into building my first startup, HeapTree. After graduating from BIT Mesra, I dived into various projects and roles, from backend engineering at Taskbob to freelancing in Ruby on Rails. This path eventually led me to co-found HeapTree—a startup experience that taught me more about life than just technology.
As I documented in my Hackernoon blog post, "The Failed Algorithms: Why Not to Start a Startup in Your Twenties," the experience of running HeapTree at a young age was filled with excitement, but it also came with immense pressure and burnout. I learned that success isn't just about hard work but also about timing, experience, and balance. It was a humbling journey that made me rethink how I approach work and life.
Following HeapTree, I continued to explore new challenges, from working at Amagi Corporation, where I built Cloudport (a cloud-based TV channel platform), to creating a thriving gaming community called GsocTV, which grew to 27K Instagram followers and 3,200 YouTube subscribers. Managing this large community gave me insight into leadership, scaling, and handling rapid growth—lessons that carried over into my next big role at Apna.
At Apna, I was a founding engineer tasked with building their blue-collar hiring platform. We scaled it to serve millions of users and transitioned our system from a monolith to microservices architecture. After three and a half years of exciting growth and leadership roles, I sought remote opportunities, which led me to work as a senior engineer at Privyr in Singapore.
While I've built scalable products that have reached millions, the lessons from HeapTree stick with me: failure can be the best teacher, and finding balance in your twenties can be as important as pursuing success. Now, I'm focused on learning, experimenting with AI, and building the next phase of my career, always looking for meaningful and sustainable growth.
